Myths vs. Reality – Sexual Protection

Myths vs. Reality – Sexual Protection

Here are the most common myths I encounter on discreet dates, debunked clearly and realistically:
1. "Oral sex is safe, you don't get anything"
False.
You can contract gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, syphilis, HPV and even HIV (although the risk is lower) through oral sex. The throat and genital area are easily infected. A condom for fellatio + dental dam for cunnilingus/rimming significantly reduces the risk.
2. "If I use two condoms, the protection is double"
False and dangerous.
The friction between them increases the risk of breakage. A single condom correctly put on is much safer.
3. "The condom reduces the pleasure so much that it's not worth it"
Partial myth.
Ultra-thin, flavored or dot/embossed condoms can even increase sensations for some. With good lubricant, the difference is small. Long-term pleasure is greater when you don't have to worry about STIs.
4. “If she takes birth control, I don’t need a condom anymore”
False.
The pill only protects against pregnancy, not STIs. The pill + condom combination remains the smartest.
5. “You don’t need a condom for anal sex if you use a lot of lubricant”
False.
The anus has a very thin mucosa and gets irritated easily → much higher risk of transmitting HIV, gonorrhea, etc. Extra-resistant condom + silicone lubricant = mandatory.
6. “If I don’t see anything on her (or me), it means she’s clean”
False.
Many STIs (HPV, herpes, chlamydia) can be asymptomatic. You look perfectly healthy and can still transmit it.
7. “A condom protects 100% against all STIs”
Almost, but not completely.
It protects very well against those transmitted through fluids (HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia). For skin-to-skin contact (herpes, HPV, syphilis) the protection is partial – however it clearly reduces the risk.
8. “After sex I shower / urinate / wash myself and I am protected”
False.
It helps a little with urinary tract infections, but it does not stop viruses / bacteria that have already entered. Protection is done before and during, not after.
9. “Once a month / occasionally you risk nothing”
False.
A single unprotected contact can be enough. The risk accumulates with each encounter.
The golden rule:
Condom + good lubricant + regular testing + hygiene = the winning combination for intense sex and no regrets.
